Escaping 2010

Happy Monday?

I know it’s a manic Monday by how many sticks of gum I’ve plowed through.  I think today is my record. I’ve already gone through 5 and its not even 3pm.

While I was in college, I was a huge procrastinator and would wait until the last minute to do all my papers.  Some of my best work came out of late night library sessions with Starbucks.

Now that I’m in the grown up world, I’ve realized that the same principles do not apply.  The main reason you can’t procrastinate in the real world can be summed up in one word… COWORKERS.  They distract you and suck up all your free time.  And if you are working on something for them, they often change their minds on what or how they want whatever it is they’ve tasked you to do.  I’ve been sweating bullets (and chomping gum ) all morning, trying to get a task completed, and now I’m waiting on verification.  Fingers crossed that there won’t be a 508th revision.

Happy Monday!

Happy Valentines Day Weekend!

What I feared came true… I woke up and the rain had turned to SNOW!

At least this time, it was all snow, and not much ice, so the roads are all still pretty clear.  Its a little bit easier to enjoy the snow when you know you can drive to the store, or get anywhere if you need too.  Thank goodness for 4 wheel drive.

On this holiday weekend of love, my big plans include warm blankets, tea, some popcorn and movies.  And maybe a basketball game thrown in there too.  I love NCAA hoops so this is my favorite time of year.  And of course, I always have my work to keep me warm…hah!

Happy Valentines Day!!!!

Rain, rain go away.  Come again another day!  It has been raining for 2 days straight!  Life is good if you’re a duck I guess.  Thankfully we are getting a break today…but Mr. Weatherman says that snow is on the way tonight.  A girl just can’t get a break.  Just for the record, I am a beach girl at heart.  I was born on the coast and lived there for the last 8 years of my life.  I like warm, humid weather.  All this rain and snow has definitely been a shock to my system.  At one point last night, I literally thought that some of my bushes were going to be washed away.

Bravely, for the sake of true documentation, I donned my rain slicker and snapped some of the shots below.  I don’t know if they do it justice…but trust me, it was a mess!  On the bright side of rain and snow, I have some movies to catch up on, a couple of books, a full DVR and lots of soup… so I think I’ll survive.  Dreaming of warmer weather…

What’s the saying?  Come rain, come shine, come snow, come sleet?  Day in day out, its the same thing :junk, mass mailings from realtors, catalogs, and BILLS, BILLS, BILLS.  Then, just when you need it the most, you see it…that bright red envelope.  NETFLIX.!!!

I’m on the lamest 2 movie a month plan, but because of this I often forget that a movie is on the way, or even what I have selected to watch, thus bring a happy little surprise twice a month.  Today I receive 500 Days of Summer.  Yeah, I’m a little behind, I’m sure everyone has already seen it.  But I’m excited.

I’ll give you my Ebert style review just as soon as I’ve watched it… which will probably end up being Friday night.

“Someday he’ll realize what a great thing he gave up”.  I think that a lot of women have felt like this.  When relationships end its easy to want to project our feelings of regret onto the person who ended things.  It’s a somewhat comforting thought; you know that one day they will realize the pain/regret/remorse that you are feeling now.

That’s great in theory.

From my experience, getting that late night phone call 2 years later was worse than when it first happened.  After ignoring his first 8 calls, I finally picked up on the 9th one.  Big mistake.  Getting to hear the words that you thought would make everything ok, sometimes don’t make anything ok.  Sometimes it makes it worse…

Ever feel like you’re living in a tornado?  That’s what yesterday was  like.  Work has been completely hectic, and all of a sudden I’ve gotten saddled with 2 additional projects, that are due like yesterday.  I guess I should be flattered that my superiors have confidence in me that I can handle it and get things accomplished, but goodness!

Sometimes on a Sunday afternoons I have the brilliant idea to go to my local shopping center…you know just to look.  In the first few stores, I browse around and manage to keep out of temptation.  Then I enter … Home Goods.  This store is my downfall.  Rarely do I ever make it out of that store without something that I just had to have.  Today was no different.  It started out well, I even passed up the cutest green and white polka dot mug.  But then I saw these elephant bookends.   At least they were on sale for under $10.  Can you believe that?  And they are sooo heavy.  I just love them.  They are going to look great in my black bookcase.

Obviously, I was toast. I purchased them, as well as a cute new dog bed for the pup.  All in all I didn’t do too much damage, just around $35.  I know everyone is getting pumped about the superbowl.  I’m really hoping the Saints win.  One of my friends dad use to play for the Saints and they are sort of the underdog which is always fun to pull for … so GO SAINTS!  Also, my favorite show comes on tonight, Big Love.  You really can’t go wrong with a HBO series and I absolutely LOVE this one.  This season has been so outrageous I can’t even tell you.  HBO.com actually is having the Margene character keep a blog online.  Its one of the reasons I started this! Hahaha if Margene can do it, so can I.

Happy Sunday.

Today is one of the kind of days that just makes you feel….hopeful.  Its been raining, and dreary for a few days now.  Not to mention super COLD.  But today, the sun decided to come out, and even though its still a little chilly you just have to get outside.  I am a proud parent to a mutt and she and I took a stroll around the neighborhood.  She had lots of things to sniff and squirrels to chase.

Now I have the whole day to relax.  It pays to get all of your chores done Friday and Saturday, because then you can really enjoy your Sunday.  All the emails attended to, bills paid, house tidy, and I even got all my tax information together and it is ready to be taken to the guy who does them for me.  So, coming from some one who is usually pretty pessimistic ( or as I prefer a realist),  try and enjoy the day and be thankful.  My teapot is squalling, …i’m off.  :)

PJs by 8pm on a Friday night.  Could my life get anymore exciting?  Actually I have important things to do…you know, catch up on some neglected “non work” emails, watch tv shows I recorded on my DVR and pay some bills.  And blogging of course…ha.   Speaking of  the DVR, one of my favorite new shows this season is ABC’s The Deep End.  It’s about five young attorneys just starting out fresh in a swanky LA law firm. The basic premise of every episode revolves around one of the senior attorneys makes one of the newbies  take on the most impossible case, they struggle with it, question themselves, and then at the last hour figure out how to win!  Not very suspenseful, but over all pretty entertaining.  Getting to stare at Mecad Books for an hour helps any show, I could watch him brush his teeth for an hour and be happy.  I hadn’t heard of him until he was on  True Blood.  They killed him off in the last episode :( , so I was glad to see him in something else.  Hopefully the show gets picked up for a second season.  I always feel bad for shows that don’t get a good shot.  ABC is actually really stepping up its game with several good new shows.  Kudos to Disney I guess?

Ok, back to the inbox and the rest of my exciting evening.  At least its cold, nasty and rainy outside so I don’t feel so guilty for being a hermit.
